actually, in England the dwellings are built VERY close together, so much so, that one can literally walk from building to building on the roof. Because the streets are busy with traffic, the neighbourhood cats and smaller dogs found this an excellent place to run and play. The unfortunate part, is that it does rain, and usually rains a lot. so, once in a while folks could witness their pets being wisked over the side by the downpour. Thus, when it rains so much, so fast, it "rains cats and dogs"

I agree that Aesop's mere assertion that your post is filled with "misconceptions and generalizations" is not a satisfactory refutation. He should have identified these things and provided an argument for his position.

That said, I must confess I agree with him to some extent. Your claim in number one is no doubt true in some instances, but one could easily provide as many exceptions to this rule as there are instances of it. Your claim, for this reason, really is too general and reductive.

In number two you simply offer a tautolgy. Instead of explaining WHY money is associated with "power and popularity," you simply say it is so because it has always been that way. It's like saying X is associated with Y because X has always been associated with Y. Or, less abstractly, it's like saying, the moon is full every 28 days because the moon has always been full every 28 days. You haven't explained the origin of the phenomenon.

In the main I agree with you about number three, even though one could say it is not the ONLY thing around which the world has revolved. (Try religion, for one). Money has certainly played a central role in man's history. And the history of money is wild. (Precious metals out of the ground, coins, then paper money, electronic transfers....more and more abstract!) Curious isn't it? Thinking a bit more about your interesting question, several things occur to me. First off, I agree it is a widely held belief regarding the politics of sexual relationships---especially marriage---that women are more concerned about money and men about sex. However, it is easy to see how this view developed given the historical realities of relations between the sexes. Up until relatively recently, a woman was regarded as a man’s property, mere chattel, an asset like cattle (from which, btw, the word “chattel” derives.) The idea of a woman having political rights is a very recent development (and still the exception in most non-Western societies), corresponding to the novel romantic notion of a man and a woman marrying for love, i.e. against the practice of arranged marriages and/or the patriarch of a tribe promising his daughter to a member of another tribe, with the understanding that a “bride price” will be paid to the girl’s family. That price is negotiated between the fathers of the prospective couple. The men will quibble over whether the girl is worth two cows or three, for example.

Even as women acquired more political power, they were still largely economically dependent on men. American women got a taste of economic independence during WWII when they worked in the factories (“Rosie the Riveter” is a well known figure to the WWII generation) while their husbands were off to war. But after the war, women again largely assumed the “stay-at-home” mom role. (Indeed the Nazi’s were intent on discouraging women from seeking more political & economic independence with their propaganda campaign of “Kirche, Kuche, Kinde,” [“Church, Kitchen, Children”]). Only in the 60’s did things begin to change as regards women entering the work force in large numbers.

So, it’s understandable why women have placed a high premium on men having money, since few economic opportunities were open to them. (My grandmother left my grandfather in 1929 and went to work in a sewing factory for $12 a week—10 hr days/M-F. It was no picnic!) Thus women’s focus was/is on money and men’s focus, or so the perception goes, was/is on sex. No doubt there is the vestige of belief among men that if they are paying a woman’s way, they are entitled to repayment in the form of sexual gratification.

But it’s not that simple, because this political/economic explanation doesn’t take the biological element into account, even if---as some believe---the economic and political developments are ultimately rooted in the biological differences (of size, strength, mentality) between the sexes. The fact that the males are the pursuers and the females the pursued no doubt contributes to the perception that men are more interested in sex. Among the mammals it is undeniable that the males compete over who will win (or less delicately “mount”) the females in heat. We human beings may be “a little lower than the angels,” (Proverbs), but we have an animal nature as well. Perhaps that’s why most women complain that “All men are beasts,” even if they wouldn’t have it any other way!! Thus the humorous, but hardly complimentary remark I heard made by a woman who said, “Men think with their dicks!”

In sum, these roles and stereotypes are deeply rooted in our evolution as a species. Our consciousness is formed by these developments, hence our perceptions. To what extent all of these things bear on pathologies such as frigidity or impotence seen in individuals is a complicated matter and admittedly is somewhat tangential—but not altogether unrelated---to your question of whether a man would marry a frigid woman. It is not unrelated insofar as your question is premised on the assumption that men are primarily interested in sex and therefore would not marry a frigid woman who is ideal in every other regard. Of course the complementary and equally prejudiced question is to ask a woman if she would marry a man with no money. The unfortunate result of both these questions is that they fail to question the forces that give rise to them. The questions themselves are a function of the underlying dynamic that goes unexamined. The forces are real, true, but there are more fundamental forces at work. Looking at the question of economic security and sexual desire without the prejudicial overlay simplifies somewhat the whole “Love or Money” question.

The matter of economic security is the easiest to answer because there is no ambiguity. We all need to survive. Who, after all, isn’t motivated in a primary way by this need? If mankind was, by some unforeseen calamity, suddenly reduced to his original primitive state and all the economic inequities were stripped away and rendered irrelevant, would not men and women cooperate in an effort to insure their survival? Would each not do what would most likely guarantee their survival and that of their offspring? Would the women not stay put, care for the children, plant a garden and create some sense of home and hearth? (Surely we don’t think she would apply for a job as an “Employee Benefits Coordinator!”) And would the men not go out to hunt and gather to insure that his wife and children would be provided for? And would he not do everything in his power to repel any aggressor that would threaten his person or property? Different roles? Yes, but roles largely determined by biology. These roles Marx described as the “first division of labor.” Roles that have evolved into undeniable inequities were originally a matter of biological necessity. Bottom line: men and women both desire economic security. However, it is an ironic mark of latter day civilization that men and women alike often show a pathological desire for money independent of any concern for their economic security!

The matter of love of sex is a bit more complicated and subject to greater debate. However, it seems clear that the stereotype of men being more interested in it distorts the truth as much as the stereotype of women liking money more. Adding to this prejudice is the aforementioned assumption that men are sexual beasts and women the innocent objects of sexual desire who have no such desire themselves. (This idealization of women is not unrelated to the humorous quip that women don’t fart! I recall—imperfectly---a line from Dylan Thomas, something like, “O Celia, O Celia/ She shits.”) However, when men and women get to know each other this myth is shattered, for men often discover that their woman has a more voracious sexual appetite than their own. Some might even say women like sex more than men. This claim is the subject of an interesting story from Greek Mythology.



The story concerns an argument between Zeus and his wife Hera concerning who enjoys sex more, men or women. Zeus claimed women enjoyed it more and Hera claimed men did. To settle the dispute they summoned Teiresias, (who was born a man, changed into a woman, and back into a man) since only he experienced both. Upon his arrival at Mt. Olympus, he told the feuding couple that women enjoy sex more by saying, “If the parts of love-pleasure be counted as ten, / Thrice three go to women, one only to men.” Hera was outraged and blinded Teiresias, who then was granted inward vision and became a well-known seer.

Whether women enjoy sex more than men, who can say. I suspect some women do, others not. My gut feeling and experience tell me it’s largely a matter of individual passion, not a question of which sex likes sex more.

I imagine that the chathost who pretends love or promises meetings is more prevelant than the viewer who moves the host to his country and drops her because of a discovery that he does not love her.

The chathost lie (when it happens) is a lie. The discovery that love is illusive by a viewer upon moving a host to his country seems more likely to be a stupid mistake rather than a lie.

I coudl see a viewer visiting and then announcing (after a hot night of sex) that he is married being a better comparison of deceit.

always wil be a slight difference between a friend and a customer..

for most here there are friendly hosts with friendly customers, and maybe even playing along with the your special role,, while of course enjoying - usualy both ways ..
