The most successful couple I've ever known married when in their early 20s, the same age as each other. They have now been very happily married for 40 years :-). For me, that is the still best solution for a young woman at least, find the love of your life around the same age group and grow old together.

My much younger women friends I treat more like daughters - I am more comfortable with it that way. Would be stupid to demand an exclusive relationship as I want them to find a young guy someday...marriage...kids.

But the Father was pretty abusive and treated her not well and long time ago The mother thought she had a true love, and in those times they were both very poor, now the father is one of the richest and as the family believe he got too much money and lost his head...

But my main point of this story is the Update!
The mother was a good person but not a happy woman!
But! right now she did find happyness!

She has someone who loves her dearly, who has another child with her, he treats her good, he is a good man of the house, he is a good handy man and he is older just by few years then her older son!
His parents don't like the fact he married with a much older woman, but he is happy himself because he thinks he gets the best treatment, he loves her, she loves him... One is older then 40 the other is half the age!
People will always will talk rubbish and always will find something to hate about... Sometimes it's jealousy, sometimes it's ignorance But most of the time it's because us people thinking we more clever then anyone else and the fact that we so clever we think we can predict future!
The way i look at it is: I see them, they look happy, i can't help but be happy for them...
And remember most young girls do love older because they more experienced in life and know how to treat them better, it's not a fact but it's what they think, they half wrong half right (because every story is different)
Also the family now is not rich, but they working together and everything is ok!

Prof, With all due respects, there's nothing in "host's..." post that makes plain just what the "deal" was. Was the guy coming for a brief visit to meet her and expecting the accomodations one might expect at a B & B? Was he staying, or settling in, for an extended sojourn? If so, for how long? She also didn't say what her host country is and as such I'm not sure we can draw any conclusion about the standard convention with such rentals. For example, do Muscovites rent their dachas when they are not occupied?

But why it would be incumbent upon the host---and not the proprietor of the property---to equip the place, she does not make clear. I find this story really touching, even if the protagonist was a bit naiive. I've helped out one or two hosts that were in a bind, but never felt I was being scammed. If you possess enough reciepts, and other documentation to prove your story, as in the emails asking you to set up the place and such, plus witnesses too. Then start pestering Judge Greg Mathis, and do so until you get a results similar to that you will need to bring your case before him, lay off wise cracks until it's over and you may very well get you compensation. Never can tell, it may work out for you, if you already have the paper work and all, the only thing you can do is try, may get taken well care of in the end!

UP Guy, Thanks for the post. You’ve given me more food for thought and prompted me to look UP the word in my Shorter OED. As I suspected, the word is a part of English’s earlier Germanic roots. It appears as both “up” and “upp” in Old English. It is spelled “up” in Old Scandinavian and “upp” in Old Norsk. It is related to the Old High German “ūf” from which comes the Modern German “auf”, as in “Wachet auf!” (=Wake UP!) This Shorter OED lists 2 ½ pages of entries for “up” and 6 pages of compound words with the prefix “up.”

I first had occasion to think about how many ways we use the word “up” in English, as a result of living in France! My French girlfriend, a polyglot and lover of languages, pointed it out to me. One evening, as she was leaving my second floor apartment, I said to her, “Let me walk you down,” whereupon she said, “English speakers use ‘up’ and ‘down’ a lot.” When I thought about it, I realized she was right. It also made me think of how Germanic languages make use of compounds to form new words much more frequently than Romance languages.

“Down” is also frequently used. There are 1 ½ pages of listings for it, plus nearly 2 pages of compounds. “Down” is from the Middle English of the same spelling. It may well be related to “down”, from the Old English “dūn,” meaning hill (hence our word dune). “Dūn,” may ultimately be Celtic in origin (In Old Irish “dūn,” meant a fort built on a hill) and related to the Old English, “tūn,” meaning town. The observation failed to take into account how our educational institutions tend to encourage girls and boys to pursue different paths. That is why there are more boys than girls in math and science classes.

Conversely, more girls than boys pursue Literary Arts. It has also been observed by many that girls read more than boys. Why? I submit the answer is, once again, social conditioning.
