Ok , I've had enough of this... I am pretty sure I know exactly who A is, but it does not matter one way or another. What she says and what the majority of the SMART people on CC know is that not only does romance and weddings comes from CC but they happen on a non-occasional basis. That is to say they are not common but they are not uncommon either.

I _personally_ know of at least 5 hosts who have married happily and successfully, some have children now and a growing family.

Now I do not care one way or another who you are cynic, by your very nature and your very tone it is obvious you have no intention of changing your views so why bother trying to convince you? Hmm there seems to be a bit of problem with my posts today, either they are delayed or fail to appear at all. It has made a few things uhh confusing.

I do not believe you are cynical at all, just disillusioned, which while it may appear to be the same thing is not in reality as damaging as it otherwise might be.

Those that know me know I too can be more than a little cynical at times, hell it was because of such cynicism I chose the name that I did (a long story) and lord knows I am not easy to impress ;) But I have seen my fair share of fairy tales come true and that in itself is enough to give one hope and faith in love in the face of adversity.

I am sorry if I gave the impression you could never change, true cynics can not. But given time and talking to the right people may well change not only your mind but your perspective on what love can overcome as well as what it cannot.

it is bad manners to ask someone how much they earn! i do not understand the obsession of some here about how much a host earns, unless they are thinking of becoming a host themselves. 99% of members though could never handle being a host they would run home crying to mommy after the first hour

This works both ways: members want biggest percentage possible of their money to go to the host, not to some middleman they don't know.

Cc get 50% of the cash 100% of the time, if she is a studio host 25% of that 50% goes to the studio 100% of the time add those up and she makes 325% more than you (tax free, 100% of the time).

You still leave me with questions. She gets 50% of the total 100% of the time. Okay no problem there. But when you say if a studiop is involved she gets "25% of the 50%", do you mean she gets half of the remaining 50% (i.e. splits her commission with the studio--which is my understanding), or do you mean literally 25% of 50% (=12.5%?) Also, what do you mean she makes "325%" (=3.25 times)more than I do? Since you don't know what I make, I can only assume you are talking about our respective rates of taxation? Even here, you don't know what tax bracket I'm in. And you say, "add them up" and I will get 325%? How can the total exceed 100%?

Just as a matter of opinion, tax free or not, these girls are getting shafted. The lion's share goes to CC, then another chunck to the studio, and finally some studios receive the commissions on behalf of the girl and charge her another usurious rate to convert the money into local currency. CC is arguably the most generous. But take Streamate.com. They take 70%. If the girl works in a studio the studio takes half the remaining 30%. Of the 15% remaining for the girl, the studio---or bank---will charge to pay in local currency. One girl told me her local bank in Kaluga (outside Moscow) charged 30% commission to convert from dollars (or euros) to rubbles. So, 30% of the residual 15% is 4.5%, leaving the girl with net earnings of 10.5% of the gross. If she gets this paltry sum tax free, I wouldn' t characterize it as a boon. Most of these girls are too poor to work on their own. They can't afford a computer and internet connections are exhorbitant in these countries. I agree, these places are business with an aim to profit. But at bottom they are all pimps exploiting girls from depressed economies, selling their salacious services to customers from affluent Western economies. One doesn't need a PhD in economics to see the global economic aspect to these operations. And speaking of taxes, one wonders to what countries, if any, these sites pay corporate taxes. They are elusive entities and unlawful in Russia. So, the domain might be registered in a Carribean island, with an operations center in the Netherlands, credit card and payroll processing centers in various countries, with banking services in mostly Asian banks. So, my take is if anybopdy is "getting over," its the site owners (also shrouded in anonymity) and studio owners, not the girls.

Why do you think international companies have offices all over? It's because this country or that one has better tax structures. I'm sure CC pays every penny it owes to whatever country it owes it to.

By the way as you carve off the percentages that hosts must pay you can use the same theory to carve up the salaries of pop stars, sports figures and big Hollwood actors.

But before you think the hosts are penniless vagrants begging for crumbs on the corner, many hosts give significant support to their families and some even buy cars and have nice vacations.

Economist, as I said in my comment above, "I agree, these places are business with an aim to profit." I well understand that aim is best served by locating---even if it's only a P.O. Box---the company's headquarters in a place where they will pay the least tax. The problem with internet sites is the legal question as to "where", precisely they are. There has, in fact, been a whole new body of law addressing this question and the answers are as elusive as the "place" the company legally occupies. Some argue this is not synonymous with the location of the domain location; others argue it is. As to whom CC owes taxes, that is between them and the host countries who would make the claim. If, however, such claims are a matter of interpretaion of the tricky aforementioned legal question, you can be sure (consistent with the aim of paying as little tax as possible, if at all), CC will seek to to take advantage of this ambiguity---and not illigitimately I might add, even if it rasies an ethical question.

That said, it was beside the main thrust--no pun intended---of my comment: The hosts are getting shafted. And I do not share your conviction that the net earnings of movies stars, sports figures would ultimately be the same. Do you honestly believe that after Michael Jordan pays for all the services of those who attend his various business ventures are paid, that he only nets about 10-15% of the revenue he earned? That's wishful econonomic egalitarianism.

I think a certain part of it could be about the lost income but I would imagine that the main reason is the fact that we all want to feel that we are desirable, wanted and have qualities that attract others to us.

I also think that just because this is "just a job" it does not preclude you from forming freindships with and developing some sort of feelings for the customers.

Having said that I am sure that there are some hosts for which it is purely about the money and who have no feelings whatsoever about any of the members they video with although I would suspect they are few and far between.

I chatted with a guy who married a Bucharest girl and was asking him about the visa process.

I asked how he met his girl and he said that he was in Bucharest and went to a strip club. He was the type to hang out in such places and was comfortable meeting girls there and dating them. He said it was wierd because after the first night none of the girls would talk much with him except one.
