Even though guys would find other means to appear under a different guise (guys in disguise; good name for a band), I would still make the case for CC disallowing it, because at the very least it would winnow out those too lazy or not sufficiently obsessed with deception (ironically, mostly their own) to go through the trouble of re-registering, etc.. leaving only the most egregious offenders, whose style, manner, etc. would quickly unmask their true identities and disabuse them of their "more-clever-than-thou" conceit. At that point they could decide to join the rest of us in an honest discussion of ideas, or leave.

Yes I think they should bring in this rule. While it would be easy for someone to create a new name to be an arsehole, unless they could be bothered to create numerous aliases, at least we would all know they are the same arsehole and we could then choose to ignore their posts.

CC admin do read the forums. EMailing them directly is appropriate when the matter is specific to the individual but more general issues such as this are better aired here. CC has always tried to keep this forum as open as possible and does not interfere unless posts are too extreme or abusive. I prefer that it stays that way rather than risk it becoming over regulated. Another point is that this is the general forum and is open to non-members (who do not have screen names) to post.

What we have here then, among other things, is a cyber-masquerade fantasy ball. Which raises a question that has occured to me: Since it appears to be the case that many people post messages here using different names, why doesn't CC require that all participants use their screen name, or not be allowed to post? At the very least it would stop this silly and cowardly adolescent practice of hiding behind a different mask in order to attack someone. Perhaps I'll post the question to the Forum. I suspect the cowards who hide behind various pseudonyms will object; those who do not will be in favor.

Valid point, "???/".Granted, the screen name in-and-of-itself is a pseudonym. And I'll take your point a step further: Even in the 'real' world we all wear masks. In fact, the word "person" comes from the Latin, "persona", meaning "mask." That said, I still maintain that requiring the use of the real screen name would remove a layer of subterfuge---if not entirely, at least significantly---and the Forum would be a better place for it. Even knowing there will always be those whose principal aim here is to dissemble, would anyone here argue that the Forum would not be improved by their absence?

I disagree...requiring the screename will give, for people like you, an illusion of there being less subterfuge, of there being more order. I say revel in the illusion, in the anonymity, in the chaos.

why not go th other way and instead prohinit anyone from posting under their screename, then all the fake personalities, puffed up personas, personal melodramas would be gone, for example for each post thread you would be given a number.....we'd have to discuss ideas I know the egoists here who have created their little fantasy world where they are the super hero or kindly mentor would be no more.

But then people would just post their name in their message. If they didn't it would be almost impossible to follow a thread. It would also make it impossible to ignore the posts of the people you dislike.

Yes for those posters who need to create a persona they could put their name in the body of the message. but then they would have to do that thru every thread ad peoplewould have toa ctually read the message to find out who it was from....tiring for poster and reader. Im not proposing this as an idea that would fly. because these forums are dominated by the perosnalities that have been created here, their egos couldnt stand it if they were reduced to numbers, the role of their fictional personas reduced and ideas discussed instead. That is why I dont think melon name's ideas when you come down to it don't have much to do about lifting the standard of this porn forum, decorum, nasty posts, adolescent posts (you will have plenty of that even if you can only post with screename....some of the most juvenile posts come from people with screenames..and dont get me started on accountability! lol)...what he and others are really concerned about is the danger the anonomous posts place on their well crafted, ego-centric porn forum personas.
