accommodation in amsterdam
Hey i was wondering where to go for easter and decided on amsterdam and i found some very reasonable flights.
I use 2 sites to book hotels usually but everything on them seems to be over 3 miles from the city centre. Can anyone advice me on reasonable accommodation in the centre of Amsterdam I will be there 9-13 April and looking to pay no more than 100 euro per night.

hmmm ... Amsterdam, easter, sub 100e ... good luck! You're prob talking Hostel standard rather than hotel.... bathroom down the corridor and loud Germanic grunts and groans from next door. Leidesplein is the square where its at for pubs and eating ... but I usually stay at the Victoria ... but I usually go in winter when cheap deals are around. Its just across the bridge from the train station at the top of the Damrak so real handy for getting back to the airport on time! Its also one street from best shopping street, 2 streets from RLD if you feel like a different kind of window shopping :)
Dont be afraid to be a bit 'out of centre' - the trams are excellent - just get a correctly zoned strippencart every couple of days for where you want to go. It's the kind of place you end up wandering around anyway as its so pleasant to look at/experience.
Keep looking online - theres loads of booking sites out there .... but you'll be looking mostly at 2 star and maybe a far out 3 star or two at that budget ... but what the hell ... you'll be out all day and half the night anyway :)

I usually stay right at the Schipol airport hotel (Sheraton) where you have close access to trains, buses and taxis. The airport complex is a city in itself with many cafes, shops and restaurants within. The Sheraton Hotel is very lovely but the price may exceed your budget unless you wish to pamper yourself.

I saw sheraton for 500 and hilton for 400 but dismissed them as they r near teh airport. There r 2 tulip inn west and riverside, they r 300-350 for the 4 nights i'd like but only 3*, anyone been in them. I tend to go for 5* always when on holiday as I own some time shares and exchange weeks and points like a grandma LOL but this time I will be out and about, want to go to a gang bang club, see a live sex show, hire a prostitute lol these kind of things, so I will deff only sleep in the hotel. How about this one Best Western Blue Tower Hotel it's 4 star, anyone been in it?

I haven't stayed in the Blue Tower but Best Western are generally a reliable brand. However the hotel looks like it is still some way from the main attractions.
You could look at the Convent Hotel which is much closer to the action. It used to be the Sofitel and I stayed there at that time. Not 5 star but a solid 4 star. It is a little over yr budget but the convenient location should make up for this.

If I stay in A'dam, I stay at the Mercure, in the North East region. There is a metro connection to the centre at 5 minutes walk from the hotel. If you book in time, you might have a good price ( I have stayed there for 85 € a night...)

I have stayed there several times. Nice hotel but some of the rooms are on the small side. Also will cost at least 150 euros a night which puts it well over budget.

I have stayed in the Mercure and it is fine. However the Convent is a nicer hotel and in a better location. It is worth the extra 20 euris a night.

i stayed in Rembrandt's Hotel a few years ago now it was quite comfortable and looking on site 75 euros for a single room

Yes it is not a bad hotel, though a little away from the main nightspots. Also it seems to be fully booked over Easter.

Barney you are not the only one who feels this way. I have been shafted big time and am moving on, but i do not really blame the person involved personally. There are so many forces in each person's history and in their material circumstances that have a demoralizing effect, and ignorance plays a role too.

Lets see, we men pay to communicate with good looking girls - the more we communicate the more they earn ... so why would they not encourage us to stick with them by saying what you want to hear? Yeah Barney, it can be cruel sometimes. In my opinion, even though not necessarily always comforting, there are some great words of wisdom in this thread. "A little preaching" and "Ralph" hit on the karma aspect. "Less Green" , tells it from a "what do you expect perspective" and others, including "Sexy", "South America" and "Free to flirt", consider men just as guilty. I wonder how often two hosts with similar names get some confusion between the members who see them.
For example, if the name is sweetbabyx i will always think her name is sweetbaby, but maybe there is another host without the x.
Maybe there is no confusion at all because the member sees the profile pic before he comes in, and we normally use our favorite list anyway, but I wonder.
Would the host with name sweetbaby end up knowing or at least talking to sweetbabyx just because of similar names? Or would they hear about each other from members?

I dunno about similar host names, but I keep getting caught out due to people with similar member names. Hosts in community chat give me a hard time because I haven't seen them in while (I have never seen them) or because of something I said to them (I have never spoken to them). Very strange to see someone immediately launch into a conversation as if they know you, when you've never spoken to them before in your life.
These days I've figured out what's going on, and I can just give them a gentle reminder that I'm not the member they think I am, and suggest the "correct" name for the member that isn't me!

Well, although I'm a Romanian also, and I am happy that I was born in this particular time and place, I've never been able to be proud of somebody else's achievements, I've always felt I am a citizen of the world and basically the same as any other person, of any color or shape.
I think that being proud because we belong to a certain group or nation, be it Romanian, American, English, French, German or Surinamese is just a cliche for our ego-s to be pampered. Yes, our ancestors were heroes and some of our felows from the same nation are heroes too, in their own, different ways. But I can be pleased only for what I personally create. Maybe I'm an alien, but, for example, hating a sports team oposite to one's favourite seems sooo childish... lol :)

I dont think its a sin to have a favorite athlete and to be happy when someone from our country wins. By having a favorite and support him its not to discrimate other people. After all, thats what sports is all about.I have friends from all over the globe, but my country is my country and I am very proud of it and support all victories and achievements by anybody done in name of my country. I dont hate anybody from any other country and I support other people from other countries, its just that we need to support our roots and not forget about where we were born. In comm. chat many times I saw people from other countries talk about romania. I stayed quiet hurt in my heart, but i didnt say a word becuase i know they are wrong and they will talk more bad becuase of ignorance. If you dont suport your own country then none one else will.

Besides the ego-pampering, I think some people might feel a deeper sense of national identity when it comes to sports and a romanian winning X championship. But it's his/her achievement based on his/her skills, not on his nationality. We should be proud to be romanians based on the character of the romanian nation, and personally I take no pride from this factor. Romania is a very nice country, sadly, it's populated, and its inhabitants feel a common bond even if they don't know each other mostly through sports.

And yes , no matter how much I would like to believe we have made great progress in understanding our universal connection, I am aware there are many who have no interest in seeking the knowledge. For if we all were to know this truth, there would be no wars, suffering or , in a simpler scenario, no mob violence during some football contests. :) Perhaps it is delusional to think all will one day see with a clear mind and heart, but it is dream with prospect. It's called sportsmanship. It's entertainment and excitement. I am also truly against riots caused by football fans, violence and wars created by politician and believers. But to take a side in sports is fun. There is nothing wrong in supporting any team or any athlete from any part or country of the world. Its sports! It's just entertainment and there is nothing sinister in it. No need for brotherhood or citizenship of world lectures. I find it needless to say we are all friends and enjoy to help each other without labeling anyone as "stranger." its nice to guide a tourist find a nice spot in my city, or its nice to be welcomed when visiting others' home country. We need a little maturity and understand that to support an athlete is not an agression or offense to anybody. It's just very nice to see someone from your own country achieve his/her goals. Sports are just sports and were created to unify the world so please dont blame sports and athletes, they do the best to represent their country and their best rewards is acknowledgement from people of his/her own country.

I understand what you mean but consider this; Sports are played all over the world, most often with no fans . If you play tennis with your friend and no one is watching, does this mean there is no sport in the game? :) "Sportsmanship", a lesson we all learn as children, is between the players. :) Cheers
